How to get rid of mould from your bathroom

Someone taking a shower

If you have mould in your bathroom, you’re not alone. Mould thrives in bathrooms, taking over walls, floors, showers and even bathroom doors. It happens as a result of exposure to warm humidity and excess moisture, which naturally occurs when washing in the bathroom. It doesn’t look nice but it’s also important to get rid of mould for your health and wellbeing. Harpic Bathroom Cleaner will help you get rid of those unpleasant stains for good.

To get started, you’ll need:

  • Rubber gloves
  • A clean cloth or sponge
  • A microfibre cloth
  • Harpic Bathroom Cleaner
  • A mop and bucket
  • An old toothbrush
  • Goggles

REMOVE MOULD FROM THE WALL

If black mould is taking over your bathroom walls, you’ll need the right technique and tools, like a good sponge and Harpic Bathroom Cleaner, to get your walls back to looking their best.

Before you start, always make sure that the room is well ventilated by opening doors and windows and turning on a fan if possible, to provide airflow.

  1. Apply 1.5 capfuls of Harpic Bathroom Cleaner to 4 litres of water in a bucket.
  2. Spread the cleaning solution over the tiles in manageable sections.
  3. Scrub the tiles using a clean cloth or sponge and apply gentle pressure to remove the mould.
  4. Leave the cleaning solution on your tiles for at least 5 minutes. Rinse off with clean water.
  5. Repeat the steps above if needed.
  6. Dry the walls with a clean microfibre cloth to avoid mould from regrowing.

If you want to remove mould in grout, follow the instructions above for removing mould in the bathroom wall and use an old toothbrush to get into the cracks. You can also use this toothbrush technique on silicone grout around the sink, bathtub, or shower.

REMOVE MOULD FROM THE CEILING

Unfortunately, it is not uncommon to find black mould on the ceiling and because of the nature of the surface, it can be tricky to clean. Before you start, always make sure that the room is well ventilated by opening doors and windows and turning on a fan if possible, to provide airflow. Also, consider wearing goggles or eye protection on to shield your eyes from any spillages.

  1. Apply 1.5 capfuls of Harpic Bathroom Cleaner to 4 litres of water in a bucket.
  2. Spread the cleaning solution over the ceiling area in manageable sections. Be careful to avoid any spillages on you from above.
  3. Scrub the ceiling using a clean cloth or sponge and apply gentle pressure to remove the mould. Again, be careful to avoid any spillages on you from above.
  4. Leave the cleaning solution on your tiles for at least 5 minutes. Rinse off with clean water.
  5. Repeat the steps above if needed.
